The consultants engaged on this fast track commercial space scheme contacted MCD Construction for help when the original project stalled. The original design was to utilise an offsite manufactured system from outside of the UK, however, it came to light the chosen system was not UK building control compliant. MCD Construction were seconded to help find a solution and minimise any delays to the initial programme in so that the office space could be occupied as early as possible. MCD had just 18 weeks to complete the redesign and construction 4, 75m long 2 storey high units based in a Kent business park.
Utilising previous experience and engaging with trusted supply chain partners, MCD were able to redesign and secure planning on an alternative MMC options utilising a SIPPS system. This still applied great pressure to the delivery programme and required occupation deadline by the client. This potentially demanded a lot from the work force who were all required to be security checked and had to go through a regime of security passes and inductions daily on site. Completing the project safely and with careful management of the wellbeing of the workforce was imperative to MCD, therefore MCD carefully negotiated and implemented a resource schedule that allowed double shift teams to be deployed without causing any undue strain and enabled the project to be completed within the client’s 18 week remaining programme.
